Rumours have been intense thatgoalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu was looking at a potential return to the Italian Serie A after he has been linked with clubs like Inter Milan, Napoli, and Roma in the last few weeks. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been at PSG since 2011.
He has been the club’s number one choice during this period, but there have been suggestions that the French outfit will be looking at an even more capable goalkeeper. PSG have been linked with the likes of Petr Cech and Iker Casillas in recent months. Even though they are yet to make an official offer for these players, their long-standing interest means thatSirigu’s position at the club could come under threat.
Sirigu has started featuring for the national team much more, as it is widely believed that he will be the eventual replacement for Gianluigi Buffon. He played in the 1-0 defeat against Portugal, which was a disappointing result for new manager Antonio Conte.Sirigu has a contract with the French club until the summer of 2018. He has confirmed that there is no potential talk of coming back to Italy right now. After featuring in 34 league games for the French club last season,Sirigu managed to win all four major trophies apart from the Champions League.
“I’ve heard so many rumours in the past few days, but the truth is that there is no reason for me to leave PSG.I’ve spoken to the club and I have three years left on my contract, which I recently renewed.I’m happy and there’s no reason to change, I will remain in Paris,” said Sirigu. Petr Cech is widely expected to leave Chelsea, but his preference is to remain in London and this will see him secure a move to Arsenal rather than to PSG.
